Government Official Confirms MoD Investigating Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, as Staff Instructed to Refrain from Confidential Discussions in Vehicles.

A defense official has stated that the Ministry of Defence is currently looking into the possible threats associated with Chinese vehicles, and personnel have been instructed to refrain from discussing classified information in all vehicles.

Safety Advice for Defence Personnel

During a recently aired interview on a radio station, Luke Pollard commented on claims that Ministry of Defence staff have been told not to discuss secret information while travelling in China-made vehicles.

He explained that the MoD is “examining” cars from China within its vehicle pools, but noted that security is a issue in all contemporary vehicles.

Our department has a collection of thousands of cars in the MoD and those vehicles account for a tiny fraction.
However regardless of if you’re driving a vehicle from China or a non-Chinese car, our instruction to our people is to avoid connecting Ministry of Defence technology into their car, not to have discussions at a classified classification in any car, due to the increasing threats of eavesdropping that are present in all automobile, to restrict those secret conversations in secure locations. This is a prudent and sensible thing for everyone worried about security.

After it was put to him that it would be wise for the MoD to cease using all Chinese vehicles, Pollard responded: ‘That’s precisely what we are looking into at the present time.”

Broader Security Background

This revelation comes as reports from Scandinavian countries have warned the United Kingdom to the existence of multi-purpose kill switches in Chinese electric buses, which could allow China to switch off public transport and bring chaos to transport systems.

Additionally, a Russian spy ship has been directing laser beams at RAF aircrew, labeled a “highly dangerous” act by defence officials.

The wider defence situation highlights the significance of strong protocols and caution in every areas of official operations, from transport use to discussions practices.
