Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now secured the prestigious cup on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

However, Marseille struck twice late to seize a shock lead. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital leveler in the final seconds to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for PSG to seal a 4-1 penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the past 13 seasons.
