Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a swastika, they added.
Officers then discovered multiple other marked cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests indicate the liquid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; investigators are not yet aware of any harm in connection with the event," they added.
Local authorities announced they were working "to unravel the case" and have asked to the community for information.
A high-ranking official said the attack left him without words and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on online, referring to the murder of nine people by a assailant aiming at residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
